Cotton Candy - also known as silk and cotton candy fairy - Has always been an important part of a circus or carnival. In fact, due to its popularity, the United States, still celebrates National Cotton Candy Day on December 7. But did Sweet sweet you think this was invented by a dentist?
The man behind this treatment with sugar was Dr. William Morrison, a dentist who lived Nashville, Tennessee. In 1897, he and John C. Wharton invented the cotton candy and the device did - turning a plate with small holes in it.
The two called their invention "cotton candy" and introduced it in 1904 in the St. Louis World's Fair. That managed to sell over 68,000 cases and began a tradition that continues to this day.
Who has not heard of Welch grape juice? This popular brand is one of the more than 400 products sold by the Massachusetts-based firm of Welch in the United States and in over 35 countries worldwide.
Welch's began in 1869 when Dr. Thomas Bramwell Welch, a doctor and a dentist, and dentist-successful son of Charles pasteurized Concord grape juice to produce wine unfermented mass of parishioners at his church in Vineland, New Jersey. The resulting product was well accepted and marked the beginning of the processing industry of fruit juices.
In 1893, Welch's grape juice became a hit in the World Fair in Chicago, prompting Charles to give up his practice and concentrate on building Welch's brand. Today, the brand includes juices chilled sparkling juice cocktails, jams and jellies.
Chewing gum has been used for its antiseptic and medicinal properties. A 5,000-year-gum-old birch bark tar has been recently discovered in Finland, which was also used by the ancient Maya women as mouth freshener.
"Later forms of chewing gum have been used in ancient Greece. The Greeks chewed mastic gum from the resin of the mastic. Many other cultures have chewed gum-like substances from plants, herbs and resins. The American Indians chewed the resin from the sap of spruce. The New England colonists took this practice and early 1880s attempts were made to commercially market spruce gum " according to the editors of Wikipedia.
Mexican dictator Santa Anna brought the first shipments of chicle to the United States. While living in exile in New York, who hopes to make a profit from the use of pneumatic transport gum, but his idea never caught on.
Thomas Addams, the American who helped Santa Anna in his experiments, later decided it would make a big gum bubble gum. That idea was developed by Dr. William Semple, a dentist Mount Vernon, Ohio, which holds the patent for this gum bubble enhanced "in 1869.
Semple believes that chewing gum help to exercise the jaw and teeth clean. However, never built his gum and it was not until 1893 that gum became popular thanks to the efforts of William Wrigley Jr. Company, Juicy Fruit brand.
Principles of chewing gum was made of rubber or synthetic gum. Due to the pricing constraints and availability, manufacturers now use chewing gum, although it has a smooth texture and soft and tastes better. (Next: No laughing matter: anesthesia first of the medicine.)
