How to choose a tomato plant
Tomatoes are one of the favorite vegetables of the United States. They are full of vitamins and offers an amazing experience eating when ripe fruits are harvested. Here in McShane we want in a wide range of high quality plants. We have hundreds of stock for a while, including rare and hard to find varieties. The purpose of this guide is to provide you with details on some of the different characteristics will have to look for when selecting tomato perfect for your garden!
Days to maturity:
Average number of days to first ripe tomato from transplant into the garden. This can vary depending on the temperature, rain (or irrigation). And much sunlight.
Growth:
Indeterminate (Ind.) tomato plants produce fruit all season until frost. These varieties are usually the largest producers weight and the most vigorous growers. Most large slicing tomatoes are indeterminate varieties. Unless given plenty of room for expansion, these tomatoes are better trained and supported by stakes with a large tomato cage.
Determinate varieties produce most of their tomatoes in a short period of time. They are usually in dense growth habit, and because they produce a lot in a short time, are excellent for canning or sauce-making. varieties Determinate tomatoes need less support than indeterminate varieties.
Semi-determine the varieties produced in much of the period growing season, but the plants are generally smaller and less vigorous growth in indeterminate varieties.
Color
Red is the color most people imagine when they think of a "ripe tomato garden." Some varieties are mature when they are red with green shoulders. " Others are yellow or golden at maturity while others are yellow with red stripes, and some are mature even when green!
Other qualities
Taste is a very subjective question! What a great pleasure to one person may have a mild flavor to another. Some tomatoes are tart and acidic, while others have a balance of sweetness and acidity. Some varieties are considered low acid. Cut tomatoes are generally excellent for eating a sandwich. Paste tomatoes are good for making sauces, as they contain less water than other varieties. Cherry tomatoes tend to be very sweet with an almost sugary flavor. A few varieties store well so you can have fresh tomatoes well into late fall.

Abe Lincoln - old taste great time with consistency and strength disease of the new hybrids. The father is an estate with a strong growth habit and the female parent provides an early maturity. Bright Red Delicious, with globe shaped fruit can grow up to a pound each. Very resistant to disease.
Ace Tomato - Extra large, deep oblate fruits are leather thick and protected by good foliage cover. Solid and meaty, mild flavor, low acidity. This is one of the standbys of yesteryear.
Amana Orange - A huge steak inherited the name Amana Iowa pale orange fruit can get as large as two pounds each, or more. Slightly sweet, very pleasant, almost tropical fruit flavor. Afternoon tomato season.
Anna Russian - large heart-shaped velvety deep exquisite pink, sweet and creamy fruit. A tomato excellent, excellent! Magnificent, rich, old fashioned tomato flavor. Early maturing plants with beautiful foliage lace. Excellent trellis in a metal fence. Tomato Media station.
Arkansas Traveler - Raised by the University of Arkansas, this variety is known by their ability to produce fruit in hot weather. bumper crops of pink tomatoes are medium sized and very tasty.
German Aunt Ruby Los Verdes - The spicy, sweet, earth, unforgettable flavor. The pink interior blushed a surprise to the beautiful green light, pleated exterior. A vigorous plant that rewards with a high yield. Well in colder climates.
Banana Leggs - Kids will love these bright yellow 4 tomatoes inch mini banana hanging from the vines! A producer of abundant fruit throughout the growing season. Very tasty snacks while browsing through your garden. The fruit has a low acidity and adds great color to any dish. At the beginning of tomato season.
Best Boy - robust vines produce large crops red, large bright fruits. Firm and perfect for cutting. One of the best garden tasting tomatoes available anywhere. Wonderful as a tomato sandwich.
Big Beef - A miracle of modern farming, which combines tradition with delicious flavor disease resistance today. Many experts in trials of this variety of tomato is described as "the best tomato yet developed." Together with the old-fashioned flavor, rich and colossal fruit size and performance.
Black Krim - A native of Krim in the Black Sea in the former Soviet Union. Regular performance of this leaves 4-6 inches slightly flattened dark-red fruit with deep green shoulders. go green gel around. taste great. Mid-season tomatoes.
Brandywine Red - The old Amish heirloom dating back to 1885. Large, vigorous vines produce large fruit, red tomatoes in clusters of 4-6. Excellent, robust tomato flavor fashion. This plant is very large and potato leaves. end of tomato season.
Celebrity Tomato - 1984 All-America Selections Winner! Absolutely incredible set of exceptionally tasty fruit, much more resistant vines with good disease resistance and outstanding. Large clusters of consistently large beautiful tomatoes.
